I recently saw a commercial for Duracell batteries.  It describes how, when one is expecting, you tend to receive a lot of questionable advice.  The point of the commercial was to assure parents that Duracell batteries are a product that can be trusted in a world of uncertainty.  In contrast to the advice you may receive from others...  Such as the doula that recommends a dolphin-assisted water birth.

There is something about being pregnant or having a new baby that seems to serve as an open invitation for parenting advice.  There is no doubt that the most universal parenting advice I hear is to "sleep when the baby sleeps."  This actually IS good advice, since newborns do sleep a lot. You would definitely get a decent amount of (broken) rest if you always chose to sleep when your little one did.  But...

Walking into your Holiday gathering you feel excited, anticipatory.  The warm glow of roaring fireplace is calling to you.  A table bedecked with the Holiday china is spread with all of your favorite dishes.  You grab a small plate of appetizers and a cold beverage and begin catching up with your favorite Aunt from across the country.  You exchange the normal pleasantries and then the conversation takes a turn.  She makes a comment that catches you by surprise.  Suddenly you feel criticized.  Judged.  Less than.  Like you are making terrible mistakes with your life.
