Stay at home parenting: love the kids, hate the work.

I recently spent some time with a group of parents of young children.  As the little ones explored the new toys and each other, the parents sipped on coffee and remained poised to wipe drool and catch stumbles.

One mother was commenting on how difficult it has been to adjust to “not having a job” after transitioning to being a stay at home parent of three children.  As I watched her littlest crawl and wiggle her way to the edges of the play area and keep going, I knew that this was not an entirely accurate statement.

Cesarean Awareness Month: Be Pro-Choice

Have you noticed an uptick in the number of articles focused on cesarean births this month?  Specifically tips on how to avoid getting "sectioned?"  April is cesarean awareness month. This is typically a time where you see lots of focus on education about the high cesarean birth rate in the United States and statistics on the number of unnecessary cesarean sections.

I entered undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois like so many others, with the dream of becoming a veterinarian.  During my years on campus majoring in Animal Science, several experiences pushed me in a different direction.  I took several classes focused on developmental biology and also a number of lab based classes.  The topics and experiments were challenging and exciting to me.  I decided to give research a try.

Giving up? Hardly.

Today, while checking my social media pages, I came across a conversation between friends.  Some mothers of small children were discussing their comfort (or lack there of) with their bodies, how long it had been since they had worn bikinis, and how they are still wearing maternity pants.  Another friend, who does not yet have children, commented how she could not wait to have kids and give up too.
