I am proud to announce the beginning of a new series, "Through My Lenses," intended to assist parents in filtering through all the mixed messages and news stories to find the best choices for their families. 

Last week I noticed a lot of questions in the “mommy groups” about the safety of baby food and formulas.  There were more posts than average wondering about baby-led weaning and alternative or even homemade formulas.  Some links were shared as evidence of a new safety concern.  My curiosity got the best of me and I started to investigate.

Have you noticed an uptick in the number of articles focused on cesarean births this month?  Specifically tips on how to avoid getting "sectioned?"  April is cesarean awareness month. This is typically a time where you see lots of focus on education about the high cesarean birth rate in the United States and statistics on the number of unnecessary cesarean sections.

I have a friend.  A dear friend.  She has faced some difficult circumstances in the last couple years.  Circumstances that have affected her family makeup.  She has made choices that have affected her physically and will continue to alter her appearance.  The sacrifices this woman has made are not to be taken lightly.  She is an inspiration to me and is now an inspiration to young girls as she works towards educating others on the topic of breast cancer.  I have asked her to share her very personal story because it is such an important topic.  She hesitated, but, because she is braver than she gives herself credit for, eventually she sent me this..
